Bodies are made to optimize their chances of survival. The two most important functions of the body thus, are the ability to breathe and the ability to run away from danger.

Our nervous system is wired in such a way to ensure these things get priority, and will compromise other bodily functions in order to do so.

The bodies first priority is to keep the airway open, and the body breathing.

Its second priority is the ability to run away from danger.
