When we are born our tongue lies almost entirely within our mouth. It is designed this way to enable babies to breathe and feed at the same time.

As we move through the different phases of growth and development we stimulate and aid the tongue in its migration to the point where only one third remains in the mouth.

The tongue has a variety of functions, and its posture and movement in breathing, swallowing and speech will effect the development of the upper jaw, the space available for your child’s teeth to grow into and the support they will have once there.
