Originally from Australia, Alison was born in Sydney, and grew up on the mid-north coast of New South Wales before moving to Melbourne in Victoria to Study Chiropractic.

After graduating from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology as a Chiropractor in 1994, she spent her first 3 years working in a practice in Towoomba, a rural town in Queensland, Australia. During this time she also held a position on the board of the Queensland branch Chiropractors Association of Australia.

Her time in the practice there ended due to a period of ill health which catalysed many changes at both personally and professionally level. On regaining her health she spent a short time in a practice in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia before making the decision to travel through Europe.

She spent 4 months travelling around Europe before leasing a practice in Northern Ireland, where she spent the next 2 ½ years. She then spent a year doing locum work throughout the United Kingdom, before making the decision to leave English speaking countries and move to Belgium. As applying for a residency permit can be a time consuming process she invested her time in learning Flemish/Nederlands and renovating the premises culminating in the Burgstraat practice opening its doors in the middle of January 2003.

As well as using the standard chiropractic techniques taught within accredited chiropractic colleges, Alison continues to develop and keep current her knowledge in Chiropractic by regularly attending further education techniques and workshop seminars. She works within the Chirodontic paradigm www.chirodontics.com, and uses a combination of many techniques, including visceral and extremity adjusting, TBM, www.tbmseminars.com, and NET, www.netmindbody.com.

She believes that educating people in the choices they have for their health care is important, which is her motivation behind her 'Introduction to Chiropractic' information talk, along with the other 3 talks she presents within the practice, of How to Help Yourself, Physically, Chemically and Emotionally.

She leads a physically active life, enjoying most outdoor activities, but especially climbing, rollerblading, swimming and running.

Chirodontics

Chirodontics a multidisciplinary approach to cranial orthopaedics involving dental orthopaedics, body mechanics, and clinical nutrition which allows co-treatment of patients based on their desired level of health and outcomes.

"Chirodontics" is different from "Cranial Osteopathy" in some key areas. Chirodontic practitioners try to correct the posture and cranial faults first, then finish the occlusion to the corrected position. We also diagnose these faults from an "objective" standpoint, and then make the corrections in a linear, step by step syntax, where each practitioner has different goals or priorities. We also determine where the maxilla and mandible want to be from a neuromuscular standpoint and then use the appropriate tools to get them there.

For more information in English please look at the website, www.chirodontics.com .

NET - Neuro Emotional Technique.

NET is a technique using muscle testing which allows us to find specific emotional links to specific physical problems. By the stimulation of specific reflex points we are able to 'dismantle' these links, and continue to work on the physical problems using other techniques.

NET is not a talk it out therapy, nor is it a substitute for psychological or psychiatric therapy. NET practitioners are trained to refer to the appropriate specialists when indicated.

You can find out more information about NET by looking at the website www.netmindbody.com

TBM - Total Body modification.

Founded by Chiropractor Victor Frank DC, Total Body Modification is a natural healing technique used to find an organ or area of the body that is in dysfunction, then correct the problem by restoring balance to the body's master system, the nervous system. By taking the most modern of Chiropractic techniques and combining them with advanced healing techniques from around the world TBM works on the functional physiology of the body, to help optimise health. For more information look at the tbm website, www.tbmseminars.com.
