What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural health care system that gently removes interference from the spinal column and nervous system.

Congratulations on taking the initiative to seek a natural solution to health care.

Chiropractic is the largest drug free health profession in the world. It is based on the premise that, providing there is no interference to the function of the nervous system, the body has the ability to both heal itself, and to be able to perform at its optimal potential.

Your chiropractor can assist your body in both its healing ability and in the attainment of its maximum potential by correcting areas of imbalance or dissymmetry within your spine (vertebral subluxations.)

Vertebral subluxations are simply areas where the function of your spine is interfering with your nervous systems ability to communicate with the rest of your body. If left unattended, these can permanently alter your body’s expression of well being and its ability to function optimally.

Chiropractic care is an option for everyone… babies, infants, children, pregnant women and older people. Everyone can be assisted to reach and keep optimal health with chiropractic care.

Complete health care should include a regular spinal checkup.

Where did Chiropractic begin?

In 1895 Dr D.D Palmer performed a chiropractic adjustment on his deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard. Following this adjustment the janitors hearing was restored. Dr Palmer thought he had miraculously discovered a cure for deafness. He later discovered that other health problems responded to chiropractic care also, problems such as colic in babies, menstrual pain, sciatica, migraine headaches, epilepsy and digestive problems. As the function of the nervous system was restored, so too was the patients health.

Over the last 108 years Chiropractic has continued to develop into a wide range of techniques which enable your chiropractor to fit the type of adjustment to your body type.

How can Chiropractic care help so many people with so many different ailments?

The nervous system which is housed and protected by the spine, is the direct communication channel between the brain and the rest of our body. Thus it controls all your functions and organs, from turning and lifting your arm, to the digestion of your food, to the beating of your heart. Thus it stands to reason that dysfunction in the ability of our spine to work correctly can affect your bodies ability to function optimally and your overall wellbeing.

The Chiropractic Adjustment

The Chiropractic Adjustment is performed to relieve these subluxations, which will help the healing process so that once again your body can return to its natural state and function to its fullest potential.

Not all adjusting techniques produce the sound associated with ‘cracking your knuckles’. Some create no sound at all, and some, only a little. The sound is thought to be caused by gas rushing in to fill a partial vacuum that is created when a joint is slightly separated. back to top

How well educated is your chiropractor?

It is not possible to study Chiropractic in Belgium. Standards of Chiropractic education world wide are kept above a high level by the Councils on Chiropractic Education International (CCEI), a governing body, subsidiaries of which fall into regions, of Australasia, Canadian, European, and United States. A listing of internationally accredited schools can be found below, or on the website for the Councils on Chiropractic Education International (CCEI): http://www.cceintl.org
